Description
The NXP PCA9536 is an 8-pin CMOS device that provides 4 bits of General Purpose parallel Input/Output (GPIO) expansion for I²C-bus and SMBus systems. Designed to meet the needs of applications requiring more I/Os like ACPI power switches, sensors, LEDs, and push buttons, the PCA9536 integrates a 4-bit Configuration register for input/output direction control, an Input Port register, an Output Port register, and a Polarity Inversion register to flexibly adapt signal logic. All I/Os are 5V tolerant and default to inputs with 100 kΩ internal pull-up resistors. Key features include a wide operating voltage range (2.3V to 5.5V), integrated noise filters on SCL/SDA lines, internal power-on reset, and glitch-free power-up behavior. Supporting I²C bus speeds up to 400 kHz and providing robust ESD protection, the PCA9536 is ideal for cost-effective and space-constrained designs. The device is available in SO8, TSSOP8 (MSOP8), and HVSON8 packages.
